About the Hotel

The lakeside haven of warmth, tranquillity and restoration

Welcome to Tranquil Wild

In the Heart of the Southern
Sri Lanka, Outstanding Views

Origin and Vision: Professional tour guide Eugene Bubsy Dirckze had a dream of creating an oasis in the heart of nature. He purchased a jungle site and named it Badda, a Sinhalese word for “forest.” Today, his vision lives on through Tranquil Wild, now managed by his daughter, Anne Dirckze.

Serene Setting: Nestled against the scenic backdrop of Ranawaranawa Lake, Tranquil Wild offers a breathtaking view of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty. Our lodge features six luxurious accommodations set amidst a tranquil landscape, providing guests with a serene retreat in nature’s embrace. Each room overlooks Ranawaranawa Lake and includes a veranda for guests to enjoy the picturesque surroundings.

Nature’s Abundance: Guests share the expansive grounds of Tranquil Wild with peacocks, squirrels, monkeys, lizards, and sometimes even elephants migrating to the lake in the dry season. The retreat’s low-key entertainment includes swimming in the pool, relaxing in hammocks under mango trees, and observing buffalo along the lake’s banks.

Convenient Access: Located just a short drive from Udawalawe National Park, Tissa Wewa, and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (20 km away), Tranquil Wild ensures convenience and accessibility for guests eager to explore the treasures of Sri Lanka’s nature and wildlife.

Things to do

Whether you’re a nature or wildlife enthusiast, seeking wellness, or simply longing for a peaceful retreat, Tranquil Wild promises a blend of tranquility, nature’s wonders, and a touch of luxury, making it an idyllic destination for a rejuvenating getaway.

We have a list of things to do that are closer to where you stay, without having to waste time and travel far, which can be tiring.

Tranquil Wild offers a variety of activities for guests to enjoy both on the hotel premises and in the surrounding area. Activities include safaris at Lunugamwehera National Park Yala Block 6, where you might be lucky to spot a leopard and marvel at the Sri Lankan elephant, the largest and darkest of the Asian elephants. The park also offers sightings of numerous other animals and birds. We have our own Naturalist who will guide you throughout. Guests can also indulge in birdwatching with over 100 species of birds on-site and nearby.

We also offer bush walks, village tours, boat rides at Ranawaranawa Lake, all guided by an authentic villager guide who knows the area’s history and many other interesting things to do during your tour.

Additionally, we provide cooking classes to learn authentic Sri Lankan food from our head chef. BBQs and bonfires, camping, dining by the lake, and wellness retreats are also available along with a few more activities.

Commitment to Conservation

Tranquil Wild is deeply committed to wildlife conservation, focusing on preserving the biodiversity of Ranawaranawa Lake and its surrounding areas, which serve as the natural habitat for Sri Lanka’s diverse wildlife. Our dedication to conservation efforts extends to various initiatives aimed at safeguarding the environment and promoting responsible travel practices.

One of our primary conservation efforts is centered around Ranawaranawa Lake’s biodiversity and reforestation. We actively work to ensure the safety and preservation of the lake’s diverse ecosystem. This includes measures such as planting trees and protecting existing vegetation around the lake, creating a sustainable environment for wildlife to thrive.

Furthermore, we are staunch advocates of responsible traveling practices. We encourage all our guests to participate in eco-friendly activities and to be mindful of their impact on the environment. During safaris and other wildlife excursions, we emphasize the importance of respecting natural habitats, minimizing disturbance to wildlife, and supporting conservation efforts.

By fostering a culture of responsible tourism and actively engaging in conservation initiatives, Tranquil Wild strives to contribute positively to the protection of nature and wildlife in Ranawaranawa Lake and Lunugamwehera National Park, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
